Technology Overview
The Progel® technology platform is a resorbable hydrogel with a unique, accessible molecular structure that makes it ideal for development of novel medical devices like surgical sealants and adhesion barriers. Progel combines a solution of human serum albumin protein (HSA) or recombinant human albumin (rHA)* with a polyethylene glycol (PEG) molecule that undergoes a proprietary process to functionalize its cross-linking receptors. The resultant PEG molecule is ideal for forming strong, flexible bonds with the HSA/rHA protein that encourage adherence to tissue surfaces like the visceral pleural of the lungs. These special bonds can be chemically engineered and developed to remain intact and provide strength during the critical phases of healing, but are designed to resorb at key time intervals depending on the type of tissue targeted and the speed and mechanism by which it repairs itself.

With slight modifications to the physical and chemical structure of the patented Progel hydrogel, Neomend has been able to develop new and exciting formulations with the potential to change current standards of surgical closure and promote significantly improved patient outcomes.
